Gilene Kropp, BSW, RSW
In-House Associate Therapist
Gilene is a Registered Social Worker, working towards attaining her Master’s in Social Work.
Gilene has 22 years of experience supporting people through various challenges in education, mental health, addictions, health care and social work. At MK Psychology, Gilene works with adolescents, adults and families. With her experience working in clinical and community settings, she prioritizes trauma-informed care and cultural understanding in her approach. She is deeply committed to serving vulnerable populations and those affected by trauma, marginalization, and oppression. She has supported a wide range of individuals, including younger and older adults, who have complex needs and mental health challenges.
Gilene brings a unique perspective that accentuates social justice, attachment and solution-focused care. During her time working within public and non-profit sectors, she has witnessed significant discrimination and prejudice. Unfortunately, many marginalized groups face these challenges, especially when it comes to mental health concerns. She recognized that she could have a greater impact by working in private practice and assisting individuals in meeting their psychosocial and spiritual needs in their daily lives, beyond crisis management.
Gilene’s belief is to offer greater psychosocial support and structure to individuals who are feeling overwhelmed by multiple stressful situations without having anyone to rely on or resources to help them cope. Her goal is to help individuals overcome their obstacles by recognizing their own strengths and unique abilities while also providing tools and coping mechanisms to achieve the life they have always envisioned for themselves.
Gilene’s approach is grounded in respect, compassion, and collaboration. Gilene endeavours to create a supportive, warm non-judgemental environment for her clients to ensure they feel safe and comfortable to share their stories. Gilene has recognized how important it is to empower clients to address challenges in their lives, by using a person-centred approach and clients developing confidence in their own choices.
Gilene specializes in helping people facing challenging life transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, burnout, emotional dysregulation, stress and assisting families and blended families.
