Adults
Adulthood implies a set stage in life. While this is true, adulthood is better viewed as a continuous series of transitions, learning, and adaptations. It is in this period that our lives that we move through constant change: marriage, the birth of a child, parenting, loss of support systems, divorce, financial challenges, serious illness or injury, caretaking, career change or loss, the death of a loved one. Sometimes, we’re moving through life carrying the burdens of unhealed traumas. Or, maybe we’re simply burnt out from having given so much of ourselves to so many people for so long. I help my clients to work through painful events, establish goals, and build skills that will help them on their journey to peace and happiness.

Adolescents
Adolescence can be a challenging time for even the most well-adjusted and best-supported youths. As they begin to enter and explore the adult world, they are met with challenges they have not yet experienced and may not yet have the necessary skills to cope in a healthy way. Combined with their burgeoning independence and physical changes, it can often result in some big feelings. While parents all hope that their children will be open about their struggles, in reality parents aren’t always be the best psychological & emotional support system for their child, due to no fault of their own. Often, a neutral 3rd party, like a counsellor, can provide a sense of safety and security that the young person needs to express themselves, work through these big feelings, and gain the skills they need to thrive now and throughout their lives.

Career
Our careers are not our entire lives but they definitely make up a large and substantial part of not just our time but our relationships, our livelihoods, and our identities. When the stakes are this high, there can be a lot of pressure coming from several different directions making it hard to know what the best path forward is. As the majority of our waking lives are spent in the workplace, our relationships here can be particularly impactful. Often times this is positive. Unfortunately, an increasing number of people are experiencing workplace bullying & harassment. The effects of this can be catastrophic. I am highly skilled in supporting and treating individuals who have experienced psychological harm in the workplace as well as helping all people make strategic decisions to establish their career trajectory enabling them to achieve their goals. I am proud to be a recommended by The Canadian Institute of Workplace Bullying Resources.
S.A.F.E. Assessments
Structured Analysis Family Evaluations ( S.M.A.R.T.) is a systematic way to evaluate families who wish to become foster or adoptive parents. It’s often referred to as a ‘home study’ and is intended to provide a complete assessment of the environment in which the foster child will be raised. As a fully trained, certified, and insured assessor and supervisor, I work directly with agencies within the province and bring to my practice a unique mix of over 25 years experience working with Child & Family Services, children and families identified as ‘in need’ or as ‘high-risk’, communities agencies and government ministries.
